Details Behind Award
Served with Company/Troop G, 1st Cavalry Regiment (Jan 1877-Jan 1882) based primarily in California, Nevada, and the Arizona Territory, but also ranging all the way from the Mexican Border to the Washington and Idaho Territories and the New Mexico Territory to the Wyoming and Montana Territories. He was mentioned in dispatches and officially cited for gallantry on several occasions, including a promotion to Corporal for especially courageous conduct at an engagement near Silver Creek on June 23, 1878 . Major campaigns that he served in included the Nez Perce War (1877), Bannock War (1878), and Apache fighting in Arizona (1881).
