Next, he was married to Helen DeWitt Duff of Maplewood, New Jersey in 1931. His adopted son, John Heard Conklin, died in 1971. He was the son of John Conklin, United States Army and Rosalie French.

Brigadier General John French Conklin (ASN: 0-3777), United States Army, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Chief Engineer, Western Task Force, in North Africa from 1942 to 1943.
