STAFF SERGEANT MARQUIS BENJAMIN CROSS WORKED AS A COAL MINER NEAR DAVIS WEST VIRGINIA AND HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 3 YEARS 5 MONTHS AND 24 DAYS DURING WW1 SERVING IN FRANCE BEFORE HE ENLISTED IN THE USAAF ON 24 DECEMBER 1942. AFTER ATTENDING AIRWAY COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM SCHOOL AT SCOTT FIELD ILLINOIS HE WAS SENT TO AUSTRALIA ON 15 OCTOBER 1943.  WHILE IN THE PACIFIC HE SERVED WITH 141ST ARMY AIRWAYS COMMUNICATIONS SQUADRON UNTIL 4 SEPTEMBER 1945. ON 10 SEPTEMBER 1945 S/SGT CROSS WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED. THE SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX LISTS HIS DATE OF PASSING AS DECEMBER OF 1959.
