Prater, Mr. Ernest, age 82, of Ocala, Florida passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at Sylvia's Hospice House. He was born in Jackson, Kentucky and moved to Ocala, Florida in 1985 from Louisville, Kentucky. He served his country in the U.S. Army during both the Korean Conflict and Viet Nam War, Retiring as Sergeant 1st Class, after 20 plus years of service. After retiring from the Military, he worked with Decca Development for 10 years, serving as Chief of Security. He was a member of Oakcrest Baptist Church of Ocala, loves bowling, baseball, traveling and working in his yard, loved story-telling, but most of all, loved spending time with his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent, Sr. and Corsie Prater; his infant sister, Pauline Prater and his 4 brothers, Elmer, Arnold, Dennis and Vincent Prater, Jr.. He is survived by his loving wife of (57) years, Mary P. Prater of Ocala, Fl.; his son, James Steven Prater of Tucker, GA.; his grandson, 1st Class Petty Officer Jeremy Steven Prater of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; his (3) great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Nathaniel and Logan Prater; his 4 brothers, Clarence Prater of Ardmore, AL.; Ollie James Prater of Easley, S.C.; Seldon Prater of Jackson, Ky. and Lester Prater of Winchester, KY.; A "Celebration of Life Service" will be on Monday, March 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM, at Roberts Funeral Homes, Downtown Chapel, 606 S.W. 2nd Avenue, Ocala, FL. 34471, with Interment to follow, with Military Honors, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday, March 5, 2012, from 10:00AM
until service time.
