Lawrence "Larry" Leif Savoie, age 80, of Albion, IN passed away at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010 at his High Lake home. Born on November 7, 1929 in Munising, MI he was the son of Leo C. and Gladys M. (Benzing) Savoie.
He served in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne, serving in both World War II and the Korean War. He completed his GED and attended Texas A & U for one year. A resident of Albion for the past 34 years, he retired in 1992 from Conrail Railroad as a machinist with 17 years of service. On April 9, 1977 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Lee in Logansport, IN. His memberships included Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and ABATE.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Carolyn Savoie of Albion; children, Charles Savoie of Sunnyvale, CA, Cindy (Randy) Ferguson of Eugene, OR, Lenay Savoie of Grants Pass, OR, Lee (Lara) Savoie, of Eugene, OR, Linda Wood of Albion, Dan Cole of Columbia City, Trisha Lee of Albion, Barbara Lee-Amsden of Monticello and Jamie (Cristian) Matson of Avilla; brother, Bruce (Kim) Savoie of Hudsonville, MI; step-brother, Glenn (Jackie) Lloyd of Grand Rapids, MI; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and he served as a father figure to numerous children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Savoie, brothers, Leon C. Savoie II and Wayne B. Savoie, step-mother, Fannie Savoie and sister-in-law, Judy Savoie-Maloy.
Visitation is Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 4 - 8 p.m. with a prayer vigil at 5:00 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral service is Friday, March 26, 2010 at 10 a.m. with 1 hour of calling prior to service at the funeral home with Fr. Lourdino Fernandes of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, IN. Memorials may be given in memory of Mr. Savoie to the family.
