Description This is the second phase of the Operation Bushmaster for the Third Brigade of the US Army 1st Infantry Division in the battle of Ap Nha Matkilling more than 400 Viet Cong, a bloody clash with the Communists 35 miles North of Saigon. As the Big Red One Infantry Division soldiers moved back to their base camp at Lai Khe, 23 miles north of Saigon. The Americans were on a road-clearing operation along highway 13, their job was to open the road and hold it for a Vietnamese troop convoy.
