Major Bourgeois graduated in 1941 from the Hotel Dieu School of Nursing, New Orleans, Louisiana.  She enlisted in the Army as a nurse on 10 February 1945.  She had assignments in the Philippines withe the 248th General Hospital and 20th Station Hospital where she served two tours.  Then, to the 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany.  She then served in New Mexico. Her last duty station was at West Point.  She served until her retirement 31 January 1962.

She was known as "Duce" ("Douce").
