TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE CARMEN P. DIBACCO SERVED IN EUROPE WITH DETACHMENT 646, COMPANY "E", 2ND MILITARY GOVERNMENT REGIMENT (POSSIBLY A DIFFERENT UNIT BEFORE) FROM 18 APRIL 1944 TO 13 NOVEMBER 1945. T/4 DIBACCO RETURNED TO THE STATES AND WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED ON 1 DECEMBER 1945 AT FORT MEADE MARYLAND.
Carmen P. DiBacco, 86, beloved husband of the late Mary Lou (Filippelli) DiBacco, formerly of Hartford, passed away peacefully Thursday (June 23, 2005) at Life Care Center of Orlando in Orlando, FL. Born October 26, 1918 in Thomas, WV, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Candida (DiBacco) DiBacco. Carmen was a graduate of Thomas High School in Thomas, WV, and also Mountain State Business College in Parkersburg, WV. For over 60 years, Carmen was the proud owner and operator of T & C Market in Davis, WV, which later became Shop and Save Supermarket. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church. He was a member and past president of the Thomas Lions Club. He was on the initial Board of Directors for Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, WV. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past Grand Knight. He was a two-time City Councilman for the City of Thomas, WV. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army in Europe as rank of sergeant. Carmen was a music lover, played several instruments, and was a member of ``The Midnighters'', a dance band that traveled around West Virginia and Maryland. Carmen was the recipient of numerous awards including the 1992 Tuckaneer of the Year, and most recently, in May 2005 the Lifetime Achievement Award for the Lions Club International. Carmen is survived by a daughter, Candita Jainchill and her husband, Fred Jainchill of West Hartford; two sons, Robert DiBacco and his companion, Thomas Still of Boca Raton, FL, and Richard DiBacco and his wife, Anabel Velasquez of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Scott Jainchill of Charleston, SC, Lesley Jainchill of West Hartford, Alexandra and Richard DiBacco of Orlando, FL; his sisters, Philomena Massi and her husband, Orlando of Olney, MD, Paige Armentrout of Weston, WV, Elizabeth ``Betty'' Petrella of Sun City West, AZ; a brother, Anthony ``Tony'' DiBacco of Keyser, WV; sisters-in-law, Virginia ``Ginny'' and Elizabeth ``Betty'' Filippelli; and brother-in-law, Louie ``Buster'' Filippelli all of Hartford. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Angela DiBacco; three sisters, Mary Grecco, Susie DiBacco and Adeline LaCamera; mother and father-in-law, Julia and Louis Filippelli; a sister-in-law, Rose Balesano and brothers-in-law, Frank Petrella, Hansel Armentrout, and Ralph Grecco. Carmen also leaves many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Carmen was a kind and gentle man who loved his family. Everyone loved Carmen and he will be deeply missed. On June 27, Carmen was buried next to his beloved Mary Lou at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Thomas, WV. Donations may be made in Carmen's memory to Cortland Acres Nursing Home, Thomas, WV 26292

Description The American Theater was a minor area of operations during World War II. This was mainly due to both North and South America's geographical separation from the central theaters of conflict in Europe and Asia. Thus, any threat by the Axis Powers to invade the mainland United States or other areas was considered negligible, allowing for American resources to be deployed in overseas theaters.
This article includes attacks on continental territory, extending 200 miles (320 km) into the ocean, which is today under the sovereignty of the United States, Canada, Mexico, and several other smaller states, but excludes military action involving the Danish territory of Greenland, the Hawaiian Islands, and the Aleutian Islands. The most well known battles in North America during World War II were the Attack on Pearl Harbor (the first attack on US soil since the Battle of Ambos Nogales), the Aleutian Islands Campaign, the Battle of the St. Lawrence, and the attacks on Newfoundland.
