PRIVATE FIRST CLASS HOY L. WILLIAMS WAS A FARMER NEAR SAINT GEORGE WEST VIRGINIA BEFORE ENTERING THE SERVICE ON 19 SEPTEMBER 1943. HE WAS ASSIGNED TO COMPANY "A" 157TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 45TH INFANTRY DIVISION AND SERVED IN EUROPE FROM 9 MARCH 1944 TO 4 OCTOBER 1945. PFC WILLIAMS WAS WOUNDED 3 TIMES IN COMBAT HIS DISCHARGE LISTS ALL RECEIVED IN FRANCE. HOY. L WILLIAMS PASSED AWAY IN COLEMAN, MICHIGAN ON 12 APRIL 1999 AND WAS LAID TO REST AT THE WARREN TOWNSHIP CEMETERY IN COLEMAN.

Description On January 1944, in conjunction with a frontal assault, the Allies attempted to turn the Gustav Line by landing troops at Anzio. But the frontal attack failed, and the Allies were unable to break out of the beachhead at Anzio until the Gustav Line was breached in May 1944.
