CORPORAL HENRY JACK KIGHT WAS EMPLOYED AS A SERVICEMAN OF COIN OPERATED MACHINES BEFORE ENTERING THE USAAF ON 18 JULY 1942. HE ATTENDED RADIO OPERATOR SCHOOL AT CAMP CROWDER MISSOURI BEFORE BEING SENT TO NORTH AFRICA ON 8 FEBRUARY 1943. CPL KIGHT WAS ASSIGNED TO HQ & PLOT COMPANY 562ND SIGNAL AIRCRAFT WARNING BATTALION. THE 562ND WAS ATTACHED TO THE 62ND FIGHTER WING OF THE 12TH TACTICAL AIR COMMAND, 12TH AAF. CPL KIGHT SERVED IN EUROPE UNTIL 4 OCTOBER 1945 WHEN HE RETURNED STATESIDE AND WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED ON 23 OCTOBER 1945 AT FORT MEADE MARYLAND. HENRY KIGHT PASSED AWAY IN THOMAS WEST VIRGINIA ON 3 MAY 1988.

Description (North Apennines Campaign 10 September 1944 to 4 April 1945) In Italy during the fall and winter of 1944-1945 the Allies used their air power against the enemy’s communications as ground forces beat against the Gothic Line north of the Arno. Although little progress was made on the ground, the action in the Apennines tied down a large German army at a time when those troops could have been used in decisive campaigns being directed against Germany by the Allies in the west and the Russians on the east.
