Fuertes Caminos (Strong Roads) '87

Description
Fuertes Caminos 87-88 (Strong Roads) was led by the 111th Engineer Group, West Virginia Army National Guard under Task Force 111. TF-111 built a 14 kilometer (8.68 mile) road from Puente Grande, Honduras to the town of Jocon, Honduras in the remote Yoro Mountains of north central Honduros. A total of 12,000 U. S. Army engineer reserve component ( Army National Guard and Army Reserve) solders constructed the road from October 1987 to June 1988. Reserve component units worked on the road in 2-week rotations as part of their annual training. The purpose of the road was to provide improved access for farmers in the region to get their produce to markets thus improving their standard of living. The soldiers worked out of Base Camp Powder Horn to work on the remote road construction sites. TF 111 provided the continuity between the 2-week rotating units for the construction of the road. First U. S. Army (FUSA) provided a FUSA Evaluation Hqs at Camp Powder Horn for the 6-week rotation of FUSA evaluators to conduct the annual training evaluations of the reserve component units at Camp Powder Horn. I led a team of 7 annual training evaluators for Task Force 111 in support of Fuertes Caminos 88-Honduras from 27 Dec 1987 to 6 Feb 1988 (42-days).
