Prior to WWI, 1st Lt. Robert Alexander lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At that time he was an auto dealer. He had had 6 years of service with the National Guard as a 1st Sergeant. He was 27 years of age then.
He had been born in an unincorporated community, that of Unitia, Loudon County, Tennessee WSW of Knoxville). Apparently, his family had moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma in 1913. At one point he attended the University Preparatory School at Tonkawa (now Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa).
He received his commission in August 1917, after entering the Army in Leon Springs, Oklahoma. He was transeferred to Kelly FIeld, Texas, then to Columbus, Ohio. Then he sailed with his unit to Paris, Frane
He was discharged 15 July 1919 at Camp Donipah, Oklahoma.
Other than run his Southwest Battery Supply business in Tulsa for nearly 50 years , he served in the House of Representatives from 1946-1948 and from 1950-1958.
