He attended school at The Grove and was a 1945 graduate of Temple High School. He attended Texas A&M University where he lettered in football in 1945, 1946, 1947 and 1948 and in basketball in 1945. In 1948, he was football captain, All-Southwest Conference tackle in 1947-48 and played in the East-West Shrine game in 1949. He earned a degree in animal husbandry and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He served in the 82nd Airborne paratroopers and was discharged as captain. He was employed by the Soil and Water Conservation Service for a brief period of time.
He was a lineman for the Los Angeles Rams and earned the all-pro rookie award in 1951. In 1954, he was traded to the Baltimore Colts, where he ended his football career. He had several small motion picture parts, one of which was in the original production of "Demetrius and the Gladiators ."
The Texas A&M Letterman's Association in 1976 nominated him for the Hall of Fame Award.
