Other Memories Our unit had a Honey Bear "Tropo" as a mascot. She was friendly and we regularly gave her goodies through hype mesh in her cage.
One evening, following a "Short timers party" George, the "keeper of the bear" was feeding her. An MP walked up and stuck a lit cigarette in her mouth. She is yelling as George knocked the MP out.
(keep in mind we had partied hearty during the afternoon and were feeling no pain). Several of us ran outside and tried to calm her down. One guy stuck his fingers in the cage and got bit.
I'm ranking NCO at the barracks, (feeling no pain either) and know I need to take him to the 31st Field Hospital. Upon arrival the guy that was bit is telling the orderly "I got bit by a beer". I had to explain what happened and the next thing I know I'm explaining to a Bird Colonel what happened. He knows I'm soused but let's me finish the story.
He grabs the phone, calls the Provost Marshal and blesses him in a wonderfully, colorful way as to one of his MP's burning Tropo.
As I'm taking the bitten man back outside, we're met by 3 jeeps with MP's wanting more info. Although he knew we were all drunk I didn't get singed for driving. -----
We also had a Buck Sgt who was very gullible. Another buddy had been attacked with a pipe by a local while in town.
The gullible Sgt, upon his return from emergency leave, saw the cut/stitches, etc and asked what happened. My buddy told him he was helping a Thai shoe an elephant and the elephant kicked him. -----
Sleeping on a bumper pool table is not the most comfortable experience.
