Best Moment Enjoyed seeing Cannery Row in Monterrey CA,; made famous by the book of the same name by John Steinbeck. Also enjoyed Fisherman'sWharf in San Francisco.
Training on Ma Deuce and the M60, as well as other weaponry of 11Bravo. Although not actually seeing combat, my training there provided me insight into myself; determination, leadership skills, discipline, self motivation.
Worst Moment Arriving. I was supposed to have been sent to Ft Monmouth NJ for a signal school.
The matter was resolved and I received corrected orders, but there was only about a week left in training.
Chain of Command Do not recall
Other Memories Me and another who will remain nameless had an overnight pass into Monterrey. We got a hotel room then found a liquor store and bought a quart of vodka and bottle of some sort of mix. By the time the mix was gone there was still half tend vodka and we just drank it straight.
I still clearly remember the events of: trying to crash a local dance; (Dogs and soldiers stay off the grass). Wandering downtown streets hoping to get picked up by cruising girls; there were probably 5,000 or more trying the same. We returned go the hotel and as the night progressed removed light bulbs and threw them as if they were grenades.
The next morning I woke up on the floor next to my bed. My pal wasn't in, on, beside or under his. I found him in the John, arms wrapped around the porcelain goddess, out cold.
Company Song
We're the Red-eyed Tigers, scum of the earth. Filth of creation, gone from bad to worse, we're dirty sons-of-bitches. Found in every barroom, every whorehouse too. We're the Red-eyed Tigers of B,3,2.
