MG Mudge was commissioned as a 2LT of Cavalry in June 1920.

He commanded the 1st Cavalry Division from Aug 1944 until he was severely wounded by a Japanese hand grenade on Feb 28, 1945.

He retired on Nov 30, 1946.

He was the Director of the US Senate Armed Services Committee Staff from Nov 1946 - July 1955.
