About the 405th AFSB
The 405th Brigade is mission-focused, and designed to bring logistics power forward to every element of an expeditionary Army.
The 405th AFSB has two Army Field Support Battalions (AFSBns) providing direct support in Europe. They also have Brigade Logistics Support Teams (BLSTs) providing direct support to their assigned brigade combat team, Logistics Support Teams (LSTs) providing direct support on an area basis to Army Separate Reportable Units (SRUs), and garrison operations support with X Directorates of Logistics throughout Europe. The 405th AFSB provides this support throughout the United States Army Europe (USAREUR) and the United States Army Africa (USARAF) area of operations.
The 405th provides the Army Sustainment Command (ASC) and its Materiel Enterprise partners a forward presence to assist in managing sustainment and field level maintenance. The missions managed by the 405th are: ARFORGEN including Reset and LCMC/Maintenance Activity Synchronization, Army Prepositioned Stocks, Materiel Management, Field Support, Direct Theater Support, Logistics Assistance Program, and LOGCAP.
The Brigade also supports new equipment fielding and maintains the C4ISR Centers Of Excellence at Kaiserslautern and Vilseck. Kaiserslautern and Vilseck support a multiplicity of CECOM managed systems including TQS-190, TROJAN SPIRIT, the Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System, PROPHET, SPITFIRE and ASOS, DES, GDC4S, FBCB2 and DCGS. Tobyhanna Forward Repair Activity is another CECOM maintenance activity supporting STAMIS, TOCs, CGS and HCLOS radios for the European customer base.
The dedicated Department of Army civilians from the Army Support Commander?s Logistics Assistance Program (LAP) are an integral part of the 405th team. These dedicated men and women are better known as Logistics Assistance Representatives (LAR). They are from the U. S. Army Materiel Command?s (AMC) four Life Cycle Management Commands (LCMC): the Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM), the Communications and Electronics Command (CECOM), the Joint Munitions Command (JMC), and the Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM). The LAR staff is on the ground with supported units in garrison, in the field, and deployed in support of combat operations around the world.
The 405th AFSB has two subordinate battalions located in the USAREUR area of operation. The Army Field Support Battalion-Germany (AFSBn-Germany) headquartered at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany, is responsible for supporting all USAREUR Forces north of the ALPs. The Army Field Support Battalion-Italy (AFSBn-Italy) is headquartered at the Leghorn Army Depot, Camp Darby, Italy and primarily receives, stores, maintains and issues Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS).
The 405th Brigade recently assumed responsibility for Directorates of Logistics (DOL) operations throughout Europe. The DOLs are responsible for providing food service support, operating Central Issue Facilities, contracting for laundry and dry cleaning, managing the Hazardous Material Management Program, operating self-service supply centers, maintaining installation property books, overseeing logistics automation systems, counseling and shipping household goods, executing annual Combined Logistics Excellence Award Programs (CSASEA, AAME, DEA, Connelly), and providing BASOPS and tactical maintenance.
