Last Known Activity:

Served as GEN Mac Arthur's G-3 (Plans and Operations) in the Southwest Pacific Area from Jan 1942 - June 1946.

He planned several major WW2 combat operations, including: the Borneo, Philippines, and New Guinea campaigns.

Last assignment was Commanding General of 5th Army from 1948 to 1951.

One of only 12 US Army officers to be awarded the Navy DSM for outstanding service during WWI, while he was assigned to the New Jersey Port of Embarkation.
