TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE CARL W ARMENTROUT FIRST ENTERED THE SERVICE IN JULY 1937 AND WAS DISCHARGED IN 1939 ONLY TO RE-ENLIST IN SEPTEMBER OF THE SAME YEAR. T/4 ARMENTROUT SERVED IN EUROPE WITH THE 3457TH ORDNANCE MEDIUM AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE COMPANY FROM 12 MARCH 1944 TO 12 SEPTEMBER 1945. AFTER RETURNING STATESIDE ARMENTROUT WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED AT FORT MEADE MARYLAND ON 29 OCTOBER 1945. CARL ARMENTROUT PASSED AWAY ON 7 OCTOBER 1979 IN SACRAMENTO CALIFORNIA.
The War Department existed from 1789 until September 18, 1947, when it split into Department of the Army and Department of the Air Force and joined the Department of the Navy as part of the new joint National Military Establishment (NME), renamed the United States Department of Defense in 1949.
