PRIVATE FIRST CLASS EMERALD C. MAHLE WAS A ROAD CONSTRUCTION WORKER LIVING NEAR DAVIS WEST VIRGINIA BEFORE ENTERING THE SERVICE ON 11 MAY 1942.  HE SERVED IN EUROPE WITH THE 110TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 28TH INFANTRY DIVISION FROM SEPTEMBER 1944 TO MAY 1945.  PFC MAHLE WAS HELD AS A PRISONER OF WAR AT STALAG 4B MUHLBERG SACHSEN FROM 20 DECEMBER 1944 TO 15 MAY 1945. IN MAY 1945 PFC MAHLE RETURNED TO THE STATES AND SERVED AS A FURNACE FIREMAN WITH COMPANY "C" INFANTRY TRAINING DETACHMENT, FIELD ARTILLERY SCHOOL AT FORT SILL OKLAHOMA UNTIL HIS DISCHARGE. EMERALD MAHLE WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED ON 9 OCTOBER 1945 AT FORT SILL. MR. MAHLE PASSED AWAY IN DAVIS WEST VIRGINIA ON 4 NOVEMBER 1974.
