TECHNICIAN FOURTH GRADE LAWRENCE E. ASHBY WAS EMPLOYED AS BLOCK MAKING MACHINE OPERATOR IN ADRIAN MICHIGAN BEFORE ENLISTING IN THE U.S. ARMY ON 6 JUNE 1941. HE WAS ASSIGNED AS A COOK WITH COMPANY "H" 164TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 23RD "AMERICAL" DIVISION. HE SERVED IN THE PACIFIC THEATRE FROM 20 APRIL 1942 TO 21 JULY 1945 THROUGH ALL OF THE REGIMENTS CAMPAIGNS. ON 22 AUGUST 1945 T/4 ASHBY RETURNED STATESIDE AND WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED 9 DAYS LATER.  LAWRENCE ASHBY PASSED AWAY ON 23 JUNE 1988 IN MANATEE, FLORIDA. HE WAS THE HUSBAND OF HELEN ASHBY.
