PRIVATE FIRST CLASS HERBERT B. BARNETT WAS EMPLOYED AS A BOX MAKER BEFORE ENTERING THE SERVICE ON 8 JULY 1942.  HE WAS SENT TO WENDLING STATION NEAR NORWICH ENGLAND ON 25 JULY 1943 WHERE HE SERVED AS A MEDICAL TECHNICIAN WITH THE 579TH BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON, 392ND BOMB GROUP. SOMETIME IN 1945 PFC BARNETT WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE MEDICAL DETACHMENT OF THE 320TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 35TH INFANTRY DIVISION WHERE HE STAYED UNTIL HE WAS DISCHARGED ON 17 SEPTEMBER 1945. THE SOCIAL SECURITY DEATH INDEX LISTS HIS DATE OF PASSING AS 20 DECEMBER 2003.
