There is a lot of history for the ADA units, and a lot of this is forgotten and my era is not far from it, the Vietnam War, the War that our country did not want nor supported, nor did they support the vets as we returned. I do not care about all that, it hurt yes but most of all I do not want a bunch of the best to be forgotten. The men of 3 battalions and the attached units, for we all "WALKED ON WATER, WE SWAM IN SAND, WE WERE ADA MEN" of course that is not now it goes but we know.
I served with the other 2 Battalions during my tours, but all 3 units were the sand we were is high demand that there was no unit just a truck/track or 2 at some FSB/LZ guarding, supporting different units. Hell I seen 1CD, 25 Inf, 9 Inf. 4 Eng, 101 AB, 2FF 1FF, USMC, Seabees, ARVEN Rangers, ROK, Ausee, and all kind of arty from all the above. When on Quads, I have been ground mounted were the only way in & out was chopper and the arty was 105's. Now like the others this unit was a battalion with two added batteries. We had 4th Battalion, 60th Artillery, with the attached Battery E, 41st Artillery (M-55),and Battery B, 29Artillery (Searchlight).
ADDED 10/21/2012-0457 jrc What is so different about ADA are the weapons or the weapon systems they use:
1966 to 1972 Dusters/Quads/Searchlights
1972 to Present ?
