Selected for the 1912 US Olympic Polo Team. However, he broke his collar bone during a riding accident and did not attend the Olympics.
Served as Aide - de - Camp to GEN John J. Pershing from May 1918 to Feb 1926.
Wounded in action during the Argonne Forest battle on Sep 23, 1918.
Served as Secretary of the American Delegation to the Tacna - Arica Plebisicitary Commission (Peru and Chili border disputes) from July 1925 - Feb 1926. GEN Pershing was the President of the American Delegation.
Died of pneumonia on Feb 28, 1926. He was posthumously promoted to his wartime rank of COL by US Senate Act of June 21, 1930.
Other Comments:
It is commonly believed that Colonel Quekemeyer would have played a stellar role during World War II had he not met an untimely death in 1926 as he was preparing to begin his service as Commandant of Cadets at West Point, the first Southerner named to that post since Robert E. Lee.
