 Additional Information
Last Known Activity:

He is best known for his command of the Central Task Force landings during Operation Torch in Northwest Africa, and his command of II Corps during the early stages of the Tunsian Campaign.  After being defeated at Kasserine Pass in March 1943, he was relieved of command from II Corps and sent back to the USA.  In spite of his relief for cause, he was promoted to LTG and commanded the 2nd Army (in the USA) until his retirement in Mar 1946.
