28th US Volunteer Infantry
The 28th U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment was typical of the special units recruited to fight the colonial war in the Philippines. On Aug. 14, 1899, the Penn Avenue recruiting station in Pittsburgh, Pa., was a busy place. Some 28 recruits were there to join the 28th U.S. Volunteer Infantry.
