Other Memories On 5 December 1969, after receiving briefings at the group headquarters, he was assigned as Detachment Commander, 339th Aviation Detachment (Divisional) in MOS 1982, Airfield Operations Officer. The 339th was located at Dong Ba Thin along the southern coast of the South China Sea. John was promoted to lieutenant colonel on 12 February 1970.
