SGM (Ret) Jacob LeRoy Boose, died January 1990 following a long illness. He was 59. Jake Boose served on active duty for 29 years and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He joined SFA in January 1975 while assigned to the SF School Detachment of the USAIMA following 11years and 4 months of SF duty.
Jake entered SF in October 1962 with his assignment to Special Forces Training Group. He also served with the 6th SFGA, the 5th SFGA in Vietnam, a second tour in SFTG at Fort Bragg, and a tour with the 46th Company in Thailand before returning to the SFS Detachment.
His awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman's Badge, 2nd Award; Purple Heart with OLC; Army Commendation Medal with 2nd OLC; Master parachute Badge; German Parachutist Badge; Good Conduct Medal with nine awards; Korean Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal with Star; Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device; Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm; Vietnam Civic Action Medal; Presidential Unit Citation; Meritorious Unit Commendation; and Distinguished Unit Citation, and other awards.
Funeral Services were held at the Cedar Falls Baptist Church, and internment with full military honors was at the LaFayette Memorial Park Mausoleum. He is survived by his wife Carolyn; a daughter, Ramona B. Moore of Fayetteville; sons Kevin and Jacob L. Jr. of Fayetteville; his mother, Helen M. Boose of Lancaster, PA; a sister Helen Retallack of Strasbusrg, PA; a brother, Harold of Quarryville, PA; and four grandchildren.
