On 30 March 1993, Department of the Army redesignated the Law Enforcement Battalion as the 704th Military Police Battalion.
The 704th Military Police Battalion ran the Fort Lewis Regional Confinement Facility and the police operations sections.
The 704th Military Police Battalion provided support for refugee operations in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during Operation Safe Harbor, and military police support for drug interdiction operations on the southern US border.
The battalion was activated, reorganized, and redesignated as the 508th Military Police Battalion (Internment/Resettlement) on 16 October 2005 at Fort Lewis, Washington.
