Best Friends In December 1972, I volunteered to go to DaNang AB, Vietnam. Two others who accompanied me on this reassignment were SGT Heaton and SGT Jones. We took the long flight from San Francisco, CA, to Saigon, South Vietnam, to DaNang Air Base Vietnam.I didn't know SGT Heaton well, but we hit it off and later became my room mate in Ubon RTAFB, Thailand. Our assignment placed on flying status and each of us earned our combat crew member wings.
Best Moment The best moment was the receipt of Aeronautical Orders to fly as a crew member on the EC-47. After the Cease-Fire period, the entire personnel of Det 2, 6994th Security Squadron packed up on a C-130 and flew from DaNang to our assigned destinations. Some went to Ubon RTAFB, Thailand, and others went to NKP AB, Thailand.
Worst Moment There were a list of "near misses" by the NVA Rocket Battalion at DaNang, RVN. The last moments in the war was a NVA Rocket barrage which ended up on Monkey Mountain.
