Best Friends Mike, Billy Miller, Carl Savage (Sgt's all)
Best Moment The above three SGT's trained me as an MP since my third tour of duty in Nam was with the 716th MP's. Earned Secondary MOS of 95B. Awarded ARCOM for actions during a ambush while on Convoy Escort.
Worst Moment While on Convoy escort to Di An with supplies for the ARVN's and US Advisors there. (Old Big Red One base camp) I was in a V-100 with twin 30 Cal MG's in the turret with a 360 degree radius. Firing those MG's made Charlie want to break the ambush quicker.
Chain of Command Captain Basham, 2LT Wilson (Plt Leader) SSG Crawford PLT SGT/Patrol Sup.
Other Memories Kim Lanh (enough said). I left the 716th MP's with a lot pride in the MP Corp and the 716th. During the TET Offensive in 1968 the 716th earned a Meritorious Award, and a Presidental Unit Citation, for holding the attack on Saigon, and not allowing the VC to obtain any objectives they attacked. The 716th MP's took the US Embassy back, and held Saigon until combat units could arrive in Saigon. The 716th proved there weren't just military law enforcement, but were also able to fight like infantry with a lot less of the resources available.
