Other Memories B Btry, 4-38th FA (8 inch, SP) (USAR) Joined the Army Reserves four days after my 17th birthday. My first drill was before I went to Basic while I was a Junior in high school. My first drill was my Dad's last. He retired after serving in the active Navy, the Navy Reserves and the Army Reserves. I got to be the guide on bearer during his retirement ceremony. My brother, Ed, would also serve in this battery after he completed four years on active duty. The battery was made of a variety of backgrounds. Some were Vietnam vets, some had left active duty, while others were Reservists who only had been on active duty for training. The unit was good at what they did. The guys loved to fire but didn't like the admin BS. The battery was one of the best teams that I have ever served in. My positions included: Cannoneer Assistant Gunner Gunner Special Weapons Assembler/Reader Special Weapons Team Chief.
