Memories For This Unit

Best Friends
Father said that you wanted no buddies because it hurt to much when they were killed or seriously wounded.

Best Moment
End of War

Worst Moment
Wounded by German 88mm shrapnel on June 20, 1944 in Germany.
Confronting German tank at point blank range in a jeep when turning a corner. Tank turret was pointing in opposite direction allowing my father to escape.

Chain of Command
Colonel Harry Lewis, Regimental Commander
Captain Dick Gibson, B Company Commander (Carried CPT Gibson from battlefield when CPT was wounded)
BG James Gavin chewed my father out for not having his helmet on after dropping CPT Gibson at the aid station. Helmet lost while carrying the captain to safety

Other Memories
Surviving a glider landing in Europe in which most of the people on board the glider were killed on impact.
