LOG DAY
Every three days while out on search & destroy missions, a log helicopter would bring in replacement, take out short timers, bring mail, take out mail, bring in clean one-size-fits-all jungle fatigues and take out the very grungy fatigues, bring in rations and water for the next three days to hold us over until the next log day.
We also got one hot meal brought out in marmite containers. There was also cold reconstituted milk and ever so often, reconstituted ice cream.
It was also the time for us to drop noise discipline and smoke as much as we wanted.
Occasionally the battalion commander would come to visit. This was one of those days. Fortunately he brought a photographer with him so I now have this and several other photos for posterity.
