TROOPS HONORED FOR VALOR
A few well-deserving men are receiving medals for bravery from the battalion commander Lt. Col. Moffitt and the Sgt. Major.
Every man standing in the formation deserved a medal. I never heard of even one man shirking his duty. Not one among them would hesitate for a second to do whatever was needed to keep their buddies safe and alive.
What makes their bravery especially significant is many did not want to be in Vietnam nor were they convinced that the war was the right thing to be waging. Still they served honorable and like all of us, counted the days until they could return home.
I look at this photograph and every face I see, I remember. Sadly what I cannot recall are all their names.
Danny Long on the far left had just gotten a Bronze Star for valor and Purple Heart.
