Sharon Lane was born in Zanesville, Ohio, in 1943. A statue in the Aultman Hospital
courtyard commemorates Sharon and her contributions.
She graduated from the Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. A lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps, Sharon was
killed June 8, 1969. She was the first and only American servicewoman to die as a direct result of enemy fire in Vietnam.
The Sharon Lane Health Center provides a comprehensive collection of health care and consumer-health materials. Located off
the Aultman Hospital main lobby, the center is staffed by health education specialists. Patients, their families, students and
community members are invited to use our free educational resources.
