Godfrey at 50th Anniversary of Little Bighorn
8 of 9
from  50th Anniversary of the Battle of the Little Big Horn  album
an anonymous 5" x 7" silver print of an elderly Godfrey in civilian dress and cane standing next to a Sioux Warrior in traditional dress, both in front of a newly placed engraved cross with inscription that reads June 26, 1876-June 26, 1926 This Cross Marks The Site For A Proposed Monument To The 7th Cav. The hole in which the cross is placed has not yet been refilled with soil in this photograph and it is likely that this Sioux and Godfrey placed it in the dug hole just before this image was taken. Godfrey who commanded Company K during the hilltop fight at the Little Big Horn. Godfrey was one of the few officer's who acquitted himself favorably during the battle. Awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions at Bear Paw Mountain, MT. where he was seriously wounded.
