KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan ? The 94th Brigade Support Battalion was the first unit from 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI), to assume responsibility for operations in southern Afghanistan.
Lt. Col. Michael Howitz, battalion commander, said 94th BSB?s colors were unfurled during a ceremony Saturday in Kandahar for the first time in combat in more than 37 years.
The transfer of authority was conducted between 173rd Support Battalion and 94th Support Battalion. The 94th BSB is now responsible for providing combat service support to all U.S. forces operating in Regional Command South.
Soldiers of the battalion departed Feb. 7 from Fort Polk, La., and arrived Feb. 9 in Afghanistan. Since arriving, the unit has been conducting ?left-seat, right-seat? rides and theater training.
