from  Army Medal of Honor (1945-2000) - 1952  album
THE CORPORAL CLAIR GOODBLOOD MEDAL OF HONOR MEMORIAL BURNHAM, MAINE DEDICATED MEMORIAL DAY, MONDAY, MAY 25, 1998 BY THE CPL CLAIR GOODBLOOD CHAPTER, KWVA The memorial honors Corporal Clair Goodblood, a Korean War Medal of Honor recipient from Burnham, Maine. The left wing of the monument is made of polished South African jet black granite and features an engraving of a photograph of CPL Goodblood in uniform, his Medal of Honor, and his vital statistics. On the rear of the left wing is a touching poem written by a cousin in 1951 shortly after the family learned of CPL Goodblood's death. The right wing is made of Barre granite on which is engraved information from CPL Goodblood's Medal of Honor citation. On the rear of the right wing is the logo of the CPL Clair Goodblood Chapter, Korean War Veterans Association. The monument rests on a Barre granite base, 120" x 18" x 10" with a 2" steel margin and top, and an engraved message of presentation. The monument was constructed by Collette Monuments, Inc., Lewiston, Maine. A "Walkway of Remembrance," consisting of various-sized granite Remembrance Stones leads up to the monument. The stones, purchased by the public and donated for the walkway, are engraved with the names of loved ones, friends, service buddies, military units, and appropriate messages. The memorial stands in heroic testimony of a young man from Burnham who laid down his life for his buddies on a bloody battlefield of Korea so many years ago and who was awarded our nation's highest award for valor in combat - the Medal of Honor. A MAN IS NOT DEAD UNLESS HE IS FORGOTTEN Building the memorial was a labor of love by the literally hundreds of special people in Maine and across the country, veterans and non-veterans, who gave of their time, resources and sweat in a mutual effort to remember an American hero and to build a truly beautiful monument in his honor.
