This is my Military Pay Record (MPR) for August 1970 . . . for the first
month that I was with the Army's 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea. This
was also my first month receiving Hostile Fire Pay (HFP) or as it used to
be called "Combat Pay." Thus, having been in a hostile fire area with an
infantry unit, I could wear the 2nd Infantry Division's unit patch on my
right shouder when I left the division. Also by the time I outprocessed
from the Army in May 1971, I had a total of 7 months of receiving HFP.
Soldiers are authorized to wear an Overseas Service bar (OSB) on their
right sleeve cuff for each 6-month period of Active Duty service overseas; that
meant I'd earned one OSB. I also earned a second OSB for my 6
months of HFP.
