All of us privates in training were extremenly proud to wear this patch. We were told by our captain that the 2nd Infantry Division was one of oldest in the Army, had more battle streamers on our regimental flag than any other, fought in the Revolutionary War, numerous battles in the American Civil War, extensive fighting in "The Great War" a/k/a World War I, and lots of action in World Ward II.
