For active service as a resident of NY State, 1962-1968
Best Moment
Advised by LTC Kyle I had been selected for Major with 5 1/2 years active duty. I thought he was kidding.
Worst Moment
As Chief, Personnel Security Investigations, dealing with ONE of my 125 Agents - a certain LT (Robert M) - undoubtedly the worst Special Agent in the history of CIC, who went on to further infamy in Vietnam. The day it was decided by the CO that Robert would "leave" the 116th included some of the worst (and, in a sense, funniest) events I can recall from my Army service.
Chain of Command
CO - COL Harold Gilmore XO - COL Grady Cole My boss - Operations Officer - LTC Art Kyle
Other Memories
The five teams of Special Agents who worked for me were the best. Their terrific service during the anti-war events of 67-68, and then following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr., in 68, rivals anything from any period in the history of the CIC.
