Best Moment
Leaving! Transferred to 2d Cavalry after AWOL.
Worst Moment
Arriving! Perry Watkins, gay company clerk. Heroin addict for my room mate. Went AWOL.
Other Memories
Temporary stop on the way to the Cav. Couldn't get out of there fast enough. Somehow they got the idea I was an Advanced Hawk Missle Guidance System Repairman. I'd never heard of a Hawk Missle, so they wanted to make me a gate guard on a remote mountain-top missle site.
Best Friends
Steve Judd, Norm Baxter, Jim Bredstrand.
Best Moment
Too many to list. We had a ball!!
Worst Moment
Getting busted for the midnight "GI party" and getting transferred.
Other Memories
Zabo, the interpreter at the MP station, and his disdain for engineers. He could cuss in any language you could name; New Year's 1973 at the 1-2-3 Bar, with Bobby, the owner, and Klaus, the taxi driver; Climbing the Munster Cathedral with Jim B and Larry F; Chasing German hares in the fog at night, blue lights flashing, at the Rod & Gun Club. If it hadn't been for that deer, we would have gotten away with it, but we would have never got the new M151A2; The underground dome made of brick; Me an' Norm B down at the motorpool all night trying to cut my handcuffs off, then turning all the lights in the shop off, turning all the vehicles blue flashing-lights on, and chasing each other around with fire axes;
Best Moment
Pulling security at the Air Force 25th birthday party and greeting all the arriving dignitaries at the front entrance.
Worst Moment
All night riot duty (several occasions) and getting transferred to Neu Ulm, splitting Pat Donaldson and I up. We had been in the Army together since day 1.
