Continued to serve as Sgt. Maj. of the station hosp. until I was stricken with filiariasis and became a patient.
The trip home included two overnight stops (Bora Bora and Christmas Island) before we reached Honolulu, HI. I spent three weeks at Tripler Army Medical Center as a patient, then sailed on to San Francisco, where I spent two weeks as a patient at Letterman Army Medical Center. In February I was sent to Modesto, CA, and spent a month as a patient there before being sent to the Presidio of Monterey for light duty. I was disqualified from further overseas service because of my illness.
