The US Army was famous for it's beer halls in the fifties and sixties. It was common for soldiers to receive their pay and celebrate the event at their local PX Beer Hall. These were elaborate wooden halls with many wooden picnic tables available in each. Don was one of the many soldiers during that time that was encouraged to drink alcohol. Beers were less than 5 cents each.
Don's rank suffered due to each of these events. One day a Sergeant, the next a Private. He was promoted to Sergeant many times during his service. Unfortunately, his discharge came just after he had been demoted again.

Donald worked in two ocupations while assiged at Fort Hood. Initially he was a Motor Sergeant, later he became a Military Policeman.
He was promoted to Sergeant several times. On pay day, he would take his pay to the local Post beer hall. Back then, the Army had beer halls positioned all over the Post. Complete with a small bar and many wooded picnic tables. Beer was rather inexpensive back then.
During the course of the evening and after few beers, he could become involved in a free-for-all. The next day he would be demoted to the grade of Private. After a bit, he would regain his Sergeant's stripes.

This was Donald's major subordinate command while he was assigned to Fort Hood and Fort Polk. It is being used to provide his shoulder patch while he was assigned to Fort Hood, TX.
