Early on, a lot of tension between senior NCO's and the field grade officers (Bn commander and XO) existed. Only God knows how the battalion survived-but, no doubt because of professionalism.

The first time that we got to really cross-country manuever. This is where a soldier learned how to truly read a map and get to where you needed to be-on your own. The image of the '70's soldier was poor, but we got the job done. NCO's then ruled, we didn't need officers to do our jobs!

The whole time that I was there was considered the worst moment. This unit lacked cohesion and didn't have a clue on how to use ADA, regardless of our endless appeals for correct usage. Unfortunately, this was a Division wide problem, except for possibly FA units.

They didn't support us one bit. We were just a taxi service. We fought for correct usage but it was just like preaching to the deaf.
