The Tennessee Valley Chapter held their annual AAAA Scholarship Golf Tournament on June 3rd at "The Links" at Redsone Arsenal, Alabama. Over 240 members and friends of AAAA came together on a "warmer than usual" day to support the AAAA Scholarship Fund and the TVC. 46 corporate sponsors including major sponsors Sikorsky, Wyle-CAS, Boeing, Dyn Corp Int, Tyonek, EADS N.A., VT Group and West Wind Technologies helped the TVC raise $20,000.00 for AAAA scholarships. Special thanks to George Chinea and Debbie Bogema for their dedication and work on this event!
The TVC helped sponsor the Redsone Arsenal's U.S. Army's Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Free Children's Fishing Clinic and Lunch on 11 June 2011. The event was held at the Carroll D. Hudson recreation area located on Wheeler Lake, RSA. TVC Bass Tourney Director, Tom Geoffrey was on hand to welcome over 130 children to the clinic. All the children received free fishing poles. Many thanks to the corporate sponsorship of Avion, Betts, Standard Aero and VT Group who made this a very successful day.
On 29 June, the TVC held a Pre-Independence Day Member Social at Knuckleheads Sports Pub and Restaurant in Madison. A great time was had by all in attendance. The board is currently looking for various locations throughout the Huntsville/Madison area to hold our events. If you know of any ideal locations, please send your suggestion to the TVC board.
2011 TVC Board Elections will be held from 11 June to 5 August with election announcements on 15 August 2011. The following positions are up for election: Senior Vice President, Treasurer, VP Publicity, VP Enlisted Affairs, VP Industry/Civilian Affairs, VP Retired/Civilian Affairs and VP Awards. The term will begin 1 OCT 2011 and runs to 30 SEP 2013. Please be sure to get your ballots back in by the 5th and make your vote count!
During May 2011, COL Anthony W. Potts (PM, Aviation Systems) traveled to Iraq and presented on behalf of the Tennessee Valley Chapter of AAAA phone cards to members of the 164th TAOG and the 40th CAB (Califonia). The TVC has been supporting our Warfighters (OEF/OIF/OND and Wounded Warriors in D.C.) with phone cards totaling $71,722.51 since 2003.
The TVC Fall Bass Tournament is coming up on 16-17 September 2011 at the Elk River Group Lodge. There is limited space so if you plan to stay at the lodge, so sign up early!
29 September 2011 will be the Oktoberfest date for this year. Last year's event had a great turnout and review from members, so we are doing it again this year. Be sure to put this on your schedule.
The TVC will host the Annual Army Aviation Ball on 28 October 2011. In the past few years this was called the "Saint Michael's Ball" and has caused some confusion. This is an Army Aviation Ball and all TVC members are invited!
