Liberty Ship Named For Orland S. Loomis.
The Liberty ship, the S. S. ORLAND LOOMIS, slid down the ways of the California Shipbuilding Corp. in Wilmington, California, November 16, 1943. The ship was named for the governor-elect of the state of Wisconsin who died before assuming his office. He was graduated from the law schobl of the University in 1917.
Mrs. Orland S. Loomis, (Florence M. Ely, H. Ec. '16) christened the ship with California champagne.
