SP4 Howard Cecil West, Vietnam Veteran, Native of Clinton, North Carolina.

Specialist Four Howard Cecil West was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 West served our country until December 11th, 1966 in South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Howard died from small arms fire. His body was recovered. Howard was born on February 17th, 1946 in Clinton, North Carolina. SP4 West is on panel 13E, line 037 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for one year.

R. Cecil Broome Jr, Cousin, Miami, FL. He was my cousin. All these years I knew him only by "HC". That was what he was called by his family members. Only now do I find out that we were born two months apart and shared the same middle name: Cecil. He gave so I didn't have to. God bless them all. R. Cecil Broome, Jr., United States Navy 1965-1976.

THE SAMPSONIAN(CLINTON, NC) DEC 15, 1966: Local Soldier is killed in Vietnam. The parents of a Clinton Soldier have been notified that their son has been killed in military action in Vietnam. SP4 Howard C West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl West of Route 1, Clinton, was one of 21 military personnel whose deaths in action was announced Tuesday.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs Carl West, Route #1, Box 202, Clinton, NC.

He served with Bravo Company, 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Bronze Star Medal, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds with One Oak Leaf Cluster, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
