WO1 Walton and his gunner, SSgt. Richard Pawelke, were aboard a OH-6A (tail number 67-16013) that was shot down during operations.

WO1 Lewis Walton was interred in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mexico, Miami County, Indiana. He left a wife and young daughter at his passing.
